Basic Sugar Cookie Recipe

Yield: 3 Dozen Large Cookies

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cooke Time: 7-8 Minutes per sheet

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups sweet cream butter - salted

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tbsp. vanilla

  • 2 tsp. baking powder

  • 6 cups flour

INSTRUCTIONS
 

  1. Add butter and sugar to your mixer and cream together until it is completely mixed. Do not overmix.

  2. Add vanilla and eggs and mix.

  3. Add baking powder and mix.

  4. Mix in flour two cups at a time.

  5. Do not chill the dough, the cookies will bake better if the dough is room temperature. 

  6. Roll out a handful of dough on a prepared surface that is 1/4". If you prefer thicker cookies you can try rolling at 3/8" thick.

  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 7-8 minutes. If you are making thicker cookies bake for an additional 2 minutes. Every oven is different so you might want to try a few test batches first to determine the best timing for your oven.

  8. Cool for at least 30 minutes then frost and decorate.
